Black Calabash Tree (amphitecna latifolia)

LUSH AND TROPICAL – Amazing densely foliated branches make up this smaller tropical tree that eventually matures around 30 feet tall with a spread in varying sizes. Abundant glossy green leaves provide ideal shade for smaller understory plants in the garden. Periodically during the growing season the trees blooms in, two-inch-long, purplish-white, tubular flowers, which are followed by smooth, shiny green, four inch long fruit. The fruit has a thin, hard shell and contains numerous 1/2-inch-long, edible black seeds in a bland white pulp.
