Spanish Lime Fruit Tree (melicoccus bijugatus)

The common name of Spanish Lime is somewhat misleading as the only likeness is the green coloration of the skin on fruit and is more closely related to the lychee or longan. White fragrant flowers appear on long slender spikes producing compact, heavy clusters of smooth, thin skinned fruit with a glistening, pink to yellowish translucent, juicy flesh. Enjoyable to eat right from the tree. Mature trees are stately and attractive reaching as much as 85 feet tall. Native to Columbia and Venezuela it is commonly used in landscaping.
