Fragrant Patchouli Bush (pogostemon cablin)

Homegrown perfume! One brush up against this bushy herb and the entire garden is scented with a warm and peaceful fragrance. Erect stems never grow more than 2 to 3 feet tall and make a fantastic thick border plant and offer up seed-producing flowers that are copiously fragrant and blossom in late fall. Highly drought tolerant once it gets established in the garden, making it easy and carefree. Leaves can be harvested 2 – 3 times a year and dried for tea or potpourri. Commercially, the essential oil is obtained from the dried, cured leaves and used as a flavoring in baked goods, gum and candy.
