Colvilles Glory Tree (colvillea racemosa)

Simply the most beautiful flowering tree! Awe inspiring clusters of gradient deep orange to yellowish–green flowers hang in spectacular pendants from the contorted branch ends in late fall. After flowering the tree rattles, in the wind, with long, flat developing seed pods. The Madagascar native sports feathery pinnate leaves giving it an airy appearance. Preferring a sunny location and good drainage young trees are rapid growers becoming drought tolerant over time. Grown mainly as an ornamental, the trunk is used for canoes in its native habitat due to its lightweight and hard nature. A rare and spectacular tree for the tropical collector.
